About Brass Rep
Brass Rep is a planned free, community-built database of brass band repertoire, on the model of the Wind Repertory Project (windrep.org). This site is a proof of concept with four sample works. It is here to find out whether pages like these are useful to bands.
Facts plus links
Each page holds facts about a work (year, duration, publisher, instrumentation, recordings, contest use) and links to where they came from. Publishers' programme notes are linked, not copied. Contest results are linked on Brass Band Results rather than copied. Every work page lists its sources at the bottom. Sections with no information yet are left out.
Grades are the publisher's own
Brass Rep has no grading scale of its own. Difficulty is the grade the publisher prints, shown as printed, with whose grade it is in brackets, for example "Grade 6 (Philip Sparke)". Grades from different publishers are not converted to one scale. Contest Use, the sections a work was set for, is the common reference.
Open data and corrections
All the data is available as JSON and CSV. Contest use copied from Wikipedia tables is CC BY-SA 4.0, so it is kept in separate files (JSON, CSV, with a notice listing the articles), and left out of the main files. Spotted a mistake? Use "Suggest a correction" on the work's page, or emailbrassrep@swatland.dev.
